NBA Veteran Center Foyle Retires
August 18 -- NBA veteran and humanitarian Adonal Foyle, who spent three seasons with the Orlando Magic, announced his retirement.
Two Colgate University professors discovered Foyle's basketball talent and brought him to the United States from his native country of St. Vincent & the Grenadines.
Foyle, 35, who led Colgate University men's basketball team to its only NCAA Tournament appearances in 1995 and 1996, spent 13 seasons in the NBA as a center, including his first 10 with the Golden State Warriors. He holds Golden State's all-time record for blocked shots (1,140) and is fifth on its all-time list for offensive rebounds and sixth for defensive rebounds. He also played in one game for Memphis in 2009.
The 6-foot, 10-inch Foyle averaged 4.1 points and 4.7 rebounds a game for his NBA career. A right knee injury prevented him from practicing often and playing at all last season.
He also made a name for himself as a humanitarian, being inducted into the Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame for charitable work with young people through his Kerosene Lamp Foundation.
