Miami Heat Coach Erik Spoelstra To Join NBA Fit Team

Jan. 4 -- The NBA's Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra, with the support of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, will partner with the NBA and NBA Cares as a member of their NBA FIT team.

In honor of NBA FIT Week, 100 children from local inner-city elementary and middle schools will pledge their fitness commitment and New Year’s Resolutions to the Miami HEAT and the NBA on Jan. 5. Spoelstra will be in attendance to encourage the children in their fitness goals. The event will be emceed by Heat television play-by-play announcer Eric Reid. The Miami Heat Dancers will also be in attendance, along with Burnie the team Mascot.

NBA FIT encourages physical activity and healthy living through products, events and programs for children and their families, while providing youngsters with an opportunity to participate, free of charge, in exciting fitness competitions. The goal of NBA FIT is to engage one million children, adults and families to pledge NBA FIT during the 2009-10 season.
