Ex-NBAer Dominique Wilkins Visits New York School
Dec. 9 -- NBA Hall-of-Famer Dominique Wilkins spoke to students at Durgee Junior High School in Baldwinsville, NY, yesterday about the importance of staying active and eating right.
Wilkins, a former Atlanta Hawks player, retired from basketball in 1999 and was diagnosed with diabetes in 2000. He is currently traveling around the country as a Diabetes Awareness Ambassador on behalf of Novo Nordisk, a health-care company. He told the students that they should avoid fast food and eat healthier. He also stressed the importance of exercising every day.
Baldwinsville Superintendent Jeanne Dangle said the district was excited to have Wilkins visit and have him encourage the students to exercise and eat right.
Wilkins visit was sponsored by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, YMCA of Greater Syracuse and Novo Nordisk. Wilkins will visit Syracuses Fowler High School Wednesday morning to talk to students and the public.
