LAL (36-32) - 121 pts
MEM (17-52) - 119 pts

Kobe Bryant became part of elite company with his scoring streak, joining Michael Jordan who performed the feat for the Chicago Bulls in 1987, Lakers great Elgin Baylor in 1962, and scoring machine Wilt Chamberlain for the Warriors from 1961-63. Chamberlain scored 50 or more points in three consecutive games an amazing twelve times in a span of 18 months. The legendary big man tallied seven straight 50-point games in December 1961.

It was the fourth 60-point game of Bryant's career, tying him with Jordan for the second-most 60-point games in a career. Chamberlain holds the record with 32. Bryant had 65 points versus the Portland Trail Blazers six days earlier and 50 points versus the Minnesota Timberwolves two days after that.

Against the Memphis Grizzlies, Bryant shot 20-for-37 from the field, including 3-for-7 from behind the arc, and 17 of 18 from the foul line. After the game, Bryant stated that the game was of great import because it capped three straight victories, allowing the Lakers to make up some ground in their division.

On joining the noted NBA legends with the record, Bryant recalled that he grew up idolizing all of them, from Wilt, to M.J. to Elgin. He continued that it was a "tremendous honor" to be mentioned in that same class with such legendary players and in the history books."

Memphis had previously won 7 of the past 10 games against the Lakers and had triumphed one of two earlier meetings in the season. Then-Grizzlies center Pau Gasol (now with the Lakers) led his team with 35 points and 15 rebounds. Shooting guard Mike Miller had a great game with 33 points and seven assists. Memphis suffered their 13th loss in its last 16 games. At 17-52, the team had the league's worst record.

For Los Angeles, Lamar Odom was one of only two other teammates to reach double figures, scoring 20 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Luke Walton contributed 11 points. Los Angeles is 13-5 when Bryant goes over 50 points. Legendary "Big Game" James Worthy provides the post-game analysis from the broadcasting studio.
